May 15, 2007 (Old Saybrook, Conn.) – The office of Drs. McAraw, Cantner and Cantner has a distinct advantage over others – a majority of their expert staff has been with the doctors for over twenty years, providing a level of unparalleled customer service.
Emphasizing periodontal care, the doctors work very closely with a patient’s general dentist to ensure that all conditions and concerns are being addressed. The doctors are well-trained in both surgical and non-surgical treatment options and often perform the following procedures to promote periodontal health: dental implants, gum grafting, bone grafts, gum recontouring, crown lengthening and bone surgery. Their commitment to conscious sedation surgery ensures that even patients with dental anxiety are at ease for their procedure.
Dr. Jim Mcaraw completed his dental training at the University of Pittsburgh and received specialty training in Periodontics from Boston University. A former member of the U.S. Air Force, Dr. McAraw founded the practice in 1974. He is a member of a variety of professional organizations including the American Dental Association, American Academy of Periodontology and the Connecticut Dental Association.
Joining the practice in 1978 at the request of Dr. McAraw, Dr. Lee Cantner received his doctorate of dental medicine from the University of Pennsylvania. He met Dr. McAraw while both men were completing their specialty training at Boston University. After serving in the U.S. Army for two years at Walter Reed Hospital outside Washington, D.C., Dr. Cantner practiced dentistry in Philadelphia, while also teaching at the University of Pennsylvania and for the Public Health Service. In 1994, Drs. Cantner and McAraw started the River Valley Study Club, an organization dedicated to studying, addressing and treating difficult dental cases. The organization has brought in guest lecturers from all over the world who teach local doctors the latest in treatment and techniques.
The most recent addition to this successful practice has been Dr. Lee Cantner’s son, Matt. Trained at the Lafayette College and the University of Pennsylvanian, Matt Cantner has already been recognized Northeast Society of Periodontists for his achievements in the field. He is also board-certified by the American Academy of Periodontists and an active member of a variety of dental organizations, including the Academy of Osseointegration, the Shoreline Dental Society, the New London County Dental Society and the American Dental Association.
